We
have done manuals using photographs,
illustrations, and combinations of both.
The decision as to the type of media is determined
by:
- Customer
preference
- The
condition of the equipment
- The
configuration of the equipment as it lends itself
to visual interpretation.
Our
methodology consists of extensive interviewing of operators,
maintenance personnel, and supervisors. We take a great
number of photographs as well as videotaping the equipment
in operation. In addition we take into consideration
any or all manuals that may exist that relate to the
project. This would include safety policies, maintenance
programs, and any form of user manual that was supplied
with the machine.
The
final product is determined by the customer. Is the
manual being used to train operators and standardize
procedures? Or is it to be used as a maintenance guide
for changeovers and PM.
Our
backgrounds have been primarily in the beverage industry;
soft drinks, wine and beer. We have also spent time
consulting for a tractor assembly plant, foundry, and
cabinet manufacturer. In those capacities we developed
and installed maintenance systems, S.O.P’s and
scheduling systems. We have also trained both supervisors
and operators.
